I mentioned that I was going to try and get some photos of Fang. Regular readers know that lots of dogs come with their owners to our property to feed and visit their horses. You’ve met Tuff (a major star of the canine world) and Boz (who is currently in a stand-off situation with Tuff). Now, it’s time to meet Fang. When I first saw Fang, I was a tad nervous. He’s a rather large, fluffy-ish German Shepherd. He visits with his owner – a farmer who has B1 and B2 grazing in one of our paddocks.

Visiting time is hilarious. The farmer comes down our drive in his truck and proceeds to the paddock area to feed B1 and B2. A couple of minutes later, you hear snarls and Fang appears with Carla. Carla and Fang both belong to the farmer and run after his truck. By the time they get to our property, they’ve run about 3 kilometres. The same farmer told me he used to have a paradise duck that thought he was its mother. And when he drove into Christchurch, the duck would fly behind his truck. No doubt that sight startled quite a few drivers.

Fang and Carla snarl at each other but seem to be good friends. Fang has boundless energy. He can outrun Tuff and is constantly on the move. He’s a lovely dog but has the habit of rolling in mud, then coming up to me and pressing himself against my leg, wanting to be patted.

The other day, in bounded Fang and Carla in a twirling, whirling riot of fur and snarls. I managed to get Fang to pose for me though. He sat still for two nano-seconds and I fired off a few shots. So meet Fang (and Carla).

I'm doing my best to sit still. But this posing for dog portraits 'aint my thing. Hurry up!

Fang in more natural pose - this is how you'd usually see him, gazing off into the distance in search of something to chase after.

This is Carla, Fang's canine companion. She's a little shy.

Fang and Carla doing what they do best - running and leaping around.

As the farmer leaves our property, Fang takes off ahead of the truck. He and Carla will now run ahead of the truck on their way home.
