Cafe L’Affare

We only stayed two nights in Wellington last week whilst visiting my Uncle. I really wanted to stay more because of the great shopping you can do along Cuba Mall but I needed to get back to the horses.

I found a new favourite coffee place – Cafe L’Affare – and it certainly beats my old favourite, Felix Cafe. In fact, I have to give a thumbs down to Felix Cafe. We stopped in for a coffee on the way to Te Papa (Museum of NZ) and the service was AWFUL. The two gals behind the front counter acted as though they didn’t give a damn and my coffee and carrot cake was basically thrown onto the table I was sitting at. The coffee wasn’t great and the icing on the carrot cake wasn’t moist and it was sickly sweet. What I thought was quirky looks a little run down now. So I won’t be going back to Felix Cafe. El Hubs didn’t like it either.

In contrast, Cafe L’Affare’s service was super-friendly, the coffee was superb and there were many menu options. Both times we were there for breakfast and I opted for the avocado and tomato on five-grain toast (in keeping with my vegetarian regime). El Hubs had yoghurt with fruit and declared it to be excellent. We bought some espresso coffee to take back home with us – loving the retro look of the label. So if you’re visiting Welly, stop off at Cafe L’Affare and check out the Brooklyn Bakery right next door.
