Signs

I found it fascinating to spot the signs around Johannesburg that were testament to the underlying need to be hyper security conscious. I’ve never seen such signs in Australia or NZ and I hope I never do.

When it comes to security fencing, the most popular thing seems to be razor mesh that is climb-proof. And I saw many signs warning that a security fence surrounding a house was live – that is, you touch it and you probably get barbecued.

We did venture out to sample South African shopping and headed off to Sandton City. Once inside this luxurious shopping centre, visions of razor wire quickly disappear. Although on approach to Sandton City, I saw a puzzling sign announcing that we were entering a CSS Tactical Safe Zone. No idea.
